I have spent my career building things - homes, projects and businesses.
Insights is where I share practical observations from that experience and from the work I continue to do today.
The construction pieces look at the decisions behind substantial residential projects: pre-construction, tendering, programme, procurement, quality and commercial risk.
The business pieces focus on the realities behind the headline numbers: cashflow, margin, growth, operational control, restructuring and recovery.
The aim is not to present a universal formula. Circumstances matter. These are simply the questions I ask, the patterns I have seen and the lessons I have learned.
Construction & Business meet
Construction is both an industry and a business. The two cannot sensibly be separated.
A company can produce excellent work and still fail commercially. It can win substantial contracts that consume rather than create cash. It can grow faster than its systems, management capacity or working capital can support.
Equally, commercial controls designed on a spreadsheet have to work in the reality of live projects.
Having spent my career across both sides of that equation, the point where construction delivery and business management meet is where I believe I can offer the most useful perspective.
